PURPOSE OF COURSE:
This is an introductory course for the student with little or no experience with computers. The students learn the basic operations of the Microsoft Windows Operating System. They also learn to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. The class gives the students the basic knowledge to use these applications in a typical office environment, and to create printed documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and a simple database.

EXAMS:
- There will be one mid-term exam and one final exam, each worth 100 points.
LAB ASSIGNMENTS:
Labs are expected to be individual work, and grades of "0" will be given to students copying another student's work. Lab assignments will be done during the quarter which give the students hands-on experience with each of the office programs. There will be approximately 10 labs will be worth 10 points each.
GROUP PRESENTATION:
There will be one group presentation, using MS PowerPoint. Each of the participants in the group will get up to 100 points for their collective presentation.
HOMEWORK:
Reading in the text will be assigned by topic. Please read the topic prior to class, there is a lot of material to cover, and unfamiliarity with the assigned reading will definitely slow you down. In addition, review questions and hands-on practice in the topic sessions will reinforce the reading material.
GRADING:
Letter grades will be calculated from points awarded as follows:

80-89.9 B
70-79.9 C
60-69.9 D
Below 60 F
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance in this program is MANDATORY! All absences and tardiness will be tracked by the program instructors and reported to the school office. Besides seriously affecting your learning from the material, the instructor, and other students, absences and tardiness reflect poorly on your professionalism, and may disqualify you for financial aid!

NOTES:
If you cannot complete any class, you are encouraged to withdraw (W grade) as soon as possible, and see the Registrar about any refund of tuition allowed. Incompletes (I grade) will only be allowed with a short-term contract to complete the course, and if you fail to complete it on time, the grade will automatically change to an "F"!.
All Computer Science Degrees are fully transferable to Seattle Pacific University's Bachelor's in Professional Studies program. Transfer of credits to other schools is on a class by class basis, and is up to the counselors/registrars of that institution.
